This is one of the easier
candles to make, because it is pretty much just a "some assembly
required" candle. |

First, secure your
wick to the
center of the plate using hot glue or a wick-sticker. |

As you
can see, these
shortcakes were pre-drilled in the middle. But, for
this candle, I like the staggered look of the
shortcakes and in
order to wick it properly, I had to re-drill the holes off to the
side.
To make
sure that everything is aligned the way that I wanted it to be, I
stacked the
shortcakes in
the position that I wanted them and then I drilled a hole into both
of them. This is where I want my wick to be.
Don't
worry about the pre-drilled holes in the center. They will not even
show after we get all of the toppings on the candle.

Now, slide
the
shortcakes
over the wick and seat firmly on the plate. |

Next, place your strawberries decoratively on and around
the
shortcakes. I used 9 of my
medium strawberries, but
you can use any size or number. I just happen to really
like the look of the
medium strawberries.
Keep in
mind that the center will be mostly taken up with the
whipped cream dollop, so you can leave some space around
the wick. |

Next,
heat your gel and add your fragrance and color. I like to add enough
red dye to the gel to make it really dark. Otherwise, the gel looks
too "see-through" and sometimes pinkish.
Once you've got your gel
prepared, let it sit until it thickens a bit. You don't want hot gel
splashing all over the place. The key is to pour
your thickened gel slowly over your
strawberries, first, covering
them completely. You don't want your
gel to overflow the plate.
If you
don't get the cool little drizzles over the edges of the
shortcakes,
don't sweat it, you can always go back after all the
strawberries
are covered in gel and pour again.
If you do not like the way
that you poured the gel, or didn't get good enough coverage. Let the
gel cool and then peel it off and try again.

Now it
is time to whip your wax up. See my
Whipped Wax
Instructions
if you do not already know how to do this.
Once
your wax is whipped, scoop/pour it into your re-usable pastry bag
and squeeze your whipped dollop onto the top of the candle around
the wick. |

Trim your wick and you are done!
Now, I've gone and made myself hungry, so I'm off to the
store to buy me some REAL strawberry shortcake
ingredients!
